Many parents come home from a hard day’s work only to face a house full of hungry kids waiting for someone to whip up a meal in minutes. With the help of some simple meals (listed below) that every parent should know how to prepare, you can be the hero and have a meal whipped up in no time at all!
Breakfast for Supper
Nothing is easier than coming home and preparing a quick breakfast for dinner. With a dozen eggs, some toast and a dab of butter you can have a meal cooked up in a matter of minutes. Or what about some instant pancake mix? Just add water and oil, then put a little sausage or bacon on the griddle and breakfast is served (with lots of smiling faces)! Frozen waffles are a great option too. Waffles come in all sorts of flavors and can be topped with some healthy fruit, such as strawberries, blueberries, or peaches for a great, healthy topping. Omelets are always a favorite for kids. Beating a couple of eggs together and filling the omelet with their favorite foods, such as cheese, ham, bacon or any other of their favorite proteins will have the kids full and happy in no time. Serve with some orange juice or a glass of milk and you have successfully fed the children a tasty, filling & healthy meal in no time.
Mac and Cheese
Every parent knows that macaroni and cheese is a must meal for hungry kids that you can cook up in no time at all. Luckily, if kids had their choice of meals, many of them would pick a big bowl of macaroni and cheese. Not only is it a great choice for kids, it is an economical option as well. A box of macaroni noodles with cheese cooked with a bag of frozen veggies or fresh fruit is the perfect meal for kids. Cooking instructions are right on the box, which is simply a matter of boiling water for about 10 minutes and draining, then mixing with some cheese and your job is done! If you want to get a bit creative, you can always add some ground beef or turkey to the macaroni and cheese mix, or some ham and peas. Just remember that when it comes to kids, macaroni and cheese is a must!
Grilled Cheese Sandwiches
Right up on the top of the list is the famous grilled cheese sandwich. Everyone knows that children love a hot, grilled cheese sandwich. To make a grilled cheese sandwich, first butter a slice of bread and put it on a griddle, add cheese and then top with another slice of buttered bread. Cook for about 4 minutes, turn over and cook on the other side as the cheese just melts inside the bread. Moms and dads can get creative with grilled cheese as well. If your kids like ham or turkey, add some to your sandwich before grilling for some added protein. Serve sandwiches with pasta salad or noodles, fresh fruit or a vegetable and the kids are happy in no time.
Nothing puts a smile on a kids face than to have a parent tell them pizza is for dinner. If you have a spare thirty minutes, why not buy some pre-made dough, roll it out at home on a flat surface coated in flour and put on a pizza pan? Top your pizza with some pizza sauce, toppings and cheese and pop in the oven. To make it more fun, let the kids help make the pizza. Picking out their own toppings and placing them on the pizza is a great way to have some fun family time cooking dinner.
These are four quick and easy meals that every parent should know about when trying to think of things to cook the kids for dinner. Give them a try and watch those smiles!
